"Visitors" by C.R. Cheek. Here is a great 16" x 20" oil painting by Cheek (1937-2019). If you look closely there is a bag laying on the ground with "U.S. Bank" stamped on it.... like maybe the visitors were bank robbers? A resident of Poplar, Montana, he was raised on Montana's Fort Peck Indian Reservation. There he developed an interest in pioneer and Indian life of the Old West, and also had first-hand exposure to the Sioux-Assiniboine nation as well as the rigors of ranch life. For 13 years starting in the later 1980's through the 1990's Dave exhibited and sold his artwork annually at the Calgary Stampede. One of the other artists at the show was C.R. Cheek. Dave used to sit and talk "art turkey" with Cliff and got to know him and enjoyed learning about life on the "Res". This is a really nice example of his work!
